Makie experience that Mr. Masatoshi Morita who has the experience of about 40 years as a Makie craftsman.
Why don’t you try to touch the depths of Makie at Mr. Morita’s workshop in the production area of Echizen lacquerware with a history of about 1500 years?

 

The experience

★ What is Makie?
It is a Japanese traditional craftsmanship with the technique of lacquer to draw paintings by dipping Makie brush in lacquer and spreading gold powder and silver powder on top of that.

In the workshop of the traditional craftsman Mr. Morita, you can experience the paintings with careful instruction!
★ Flow of experience
1. Receive instructions on how to use tools on lacquerware and Makie.
2. Choose your favorite pattern from the sample in the studio.
3. Transfer the selected pattern to a plate and make a sketch.
4. Using the sketch as a guide, draw a picture with a Makie brush and lacquer.
5. Choose a powder of your favorite color and have Mr. Morita spread it to finish.
6. Handing over the work.

I was able to know the difficulty and depth of the Makie technique directly by listening to a careful explanation, which I cannot understand just by looking at the products of lacquerware usually.
There are a variety of designs that I can draw in Makie, then I would like to experience another design next time.
